INDOOR AIR
QUALITY ASSESSMENT/
Industrial hygiene

Many contaminants can be found in the ambient air we breathe. Indeed, this can be the result of human activities and environmental factors. This results in an alteration of the indoor air quality, which can affect the health of the occupants. The corresponding effect can be recurrent for certain symptoms that appear after a certain time of exposure to a contaminant.

It is important to have your indoor air checked when there is concern. By identifying possible sources of contamination, contaminants can be eliminated thereby improving its quality.

Biovac System has a multidisciplinary team (Hygienists, biologists, engineers, civil engineering technicians, environmental professionals, occupational health and safety professionals … etc) to meet your needs in order to improve your indoor air quality. Biovac System’s expertise includes a wide range of specialized services:

Industrial Hygiene

Biovac System is able to assess the indoor air quality of your workplace following a request from the CNESST (Commission for standards, equity, health and safety at work) or a program of preventive measures according to the standards in the IRSST.

Futhermore, we can evaluate the level of particules in the ambient air, following ISO 14644-3.

Air Sampling / Bulk Sampling of Materials

We are able to evaluate the indoor air quality for all kinds of biological contaminants (mold, bacteria, … etc) or chemical (carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, volatile organic compounds, asbestos, … etc). We offer a variety of tests that can help you identify different odors.

Certified independent laboratory analysis

Our laboratory has all the certifications required by competent authorities, as well as an efficient and dedicated team. Bulk materials can also be analyzed (materials contaminated by mold or other), as well as MSCA (materials or products that may contain asbestos) or materials containing lead.

Evaluation of the cleanliness of ventilation systems according to the IRSST's scale

The IRSST (Robert Sauvé Research Institute in Occupational Health and Safety) has established a subjective evaluation method based on a visual inspection of the state of cleanliness of ventilation ducts (3 levels).

Visual inspection (non-intrusive and / or intrusive as needed); Surfaces, HVAC Systems

Our team is trained to assess every detail that may indicate a possible source of contamination that can affect the indoor air quality. Before scheduling an inspection, we take time to ask a series of questions so as to get a better idea of the building’s history and the context of our visit.

National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) test

This test is recommended when evaluating cleanliness of ventilation ducts. It through this method that one can quantify dust levels of ventilation ducts. The IRSST recommends that ventilation ducts be cleaned when the amount of dust is 6mg / 100cm2. NADCA recommends cleaning at 2mg / 100cm2. This test also verifies the cleaning efficiency of the ventilation ducts. After cleaning, the amount of dust should not exceed 0.75mg / cm2.

Safe Asbestos Management Registry

We are able to establish a registry for the safe management of asbestos as recommended by the CNESST (Commission for Standards, Equity, Health and Safety).

Thermography

We are certified in Level I thermography. As such, we will be able to detect deficiencies in your building using thermal images produced by our specialized equipment which can greatly facilitate investigations.

Infrared thermography is a technology that produces video-quality images of thermal profiles and temperature differences as low as 1/20 ° F. This technology enables real-time and non-destructive analysis of a building’s structure, assemblies, materials, electrical components, piping, moisture concentration, temperature differences in HVAC systems, and other applications. Specific applications include water infiltration, condensation problems, air leaks, insulation checks, underground heat sources and verification of construction details.

Tests & Humidity Control

Water infiltration causes headaches for many building owners. Thanks to sophisticated instrumentation, we are able to identify sources of infiltration and prevent many long-term damages while preserving a better indoor air quality.

Humidity tests is an important tool in detecting presence of water infiltration that can cause damage to a building. We perform the humidity test alone or in conjunction with another building analysis. It is through intrusive and non-intrusive methods, using sophisticated instrumentation, that we can detect anomalies on almost all types of building components. Reports include: interpretation of results and specific recommendations for good humidity management.

Assessment of damage caused by water

Buildings can suffer damages such as flooding, backflow, or pipe breakage which may not be easily visible and measurable. By performing a damage assessment with Biovac System, you ensure that structural, collateral and indirect damages caused by water are identified such that an action plan to correct the situation is put in place.

Damages caused by water such as flooding, sewage backflows, and plumbing failures not only decreases the building’s performance but also affects the health and well-being of its occupants. Water damages assessment includes techniques such as general building review, humidity level analysis, infrared thermography, indoor air quality sampling and remediation. Our services are particularly suitable for situations requiring rigorous documentation such as loss declaration and rehabilitation of buildings.

Interstitial condensation study

We have an advanced software to help you fix your moisture control issues. Indeed, our program allows identification of the exact component of your building on which dew point has occurred. We will be able to recommend corrective measures based on results.

Design and installation of HVAC systems

Sometimes, indoor air quality is inadequate due to the lack of fresh air, absence of an evacuation system which eliminates contaminants or simply because there is no ventilation. We are able to design a ventilation system adapted to your needs with the necessary measurements and calculations

MANAGEMENT OF CORRECTIVE ACTIONS

In addition to analyzing the current profile of the indoor air quality of a building, we also produce intervention plans that will eliminate risks identified during the analysis phase of your air quality.

Corrective action is essential when one or more anomalies are identified during construction or demolition. These measures allow building managers and owners to make informed decisions that avoid costly mistakes while dramatically improving your chances of success. Independent site monitoring ensures that corrective actions are carried out safely and efficiently. Our consulting services provide unparalleled quality service while answering all your questions.
